Ernesto P. Santiago, an OFW based in Athens Greece, won the top prize in recently concluded March 6, 2008 PoetrySoup International Poetry Contest. Santiago’s poem is “Spring Bud.” A member emanilapoetry since 2006, some of his poems had also been featured in emanila’s Poetry site. Learn more.

Tagalog is eighth language in Australia, second in Blacktown

In its latest research, Compucentric Consulting has reported that Tagalog (Filipino) is the eighth non-English language spoken at Australian homes. Based on Australian Bureau of Statistics data, the research reported that Tagalog is now considered the eighth language spoken in Australian homes. The seven other non-English languages are Italian, Greek, Cantonese, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin and Spanish.

As part of the continuing program of emanila.com pty ltd, emanila*pilipino, which for many years have been a source of information about Philippine history and culture to school students, have moved its materials to Dateline Philippines at www.emanila.com/philippines.

The move is to capitalise on the ease of Dateline Philippines in updating its information using the latest technology in news posting.

Articles on the controversial “The Filipino State (Another way of looking at Philippine History)” and “Ang Pinanggalingan ng Tatarin” have been moved to the new section.

Photos of the recently opened Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway, northwest of Manila, uploaded to the Photogallery. The SCTEx is a 94 kilometer highway which links the three provinces of Zambales, Pampanga and Tarlac. The highway promises to be a boon to travellers and businesses especially those located in the export processing zone.

Dateline Philippines re-opens with another DTI business news

Our Dateline Philippines section underwent minor changes in layout with a WordPress install. The new section located at www.emanila.com/philippines opens with a news article from Art Tibaldo, DTI-CAR Information Officer.

Art has been a regular contributor of news to Dateline Philippines and has posted photos at our Photogallery too.

Poetry site surpasses 8,000 posts

emanila’s niche and unique site, emanilapoetry, recently registered its 1,000th post in its WordPress install with a poem by emanilapoetry’s veteran Fermin Salvador, “Natanggap mo ba ang tula,” Immediately following Fermin’s poem is “Short Shorts” by Wilfredo Bongcaron, also another emanila member for the last two years.

emanilapoetry started using WordPress last September 2007 after Compucentric / emanila selected WP from among other blogging applications based on a survey among members who gave WP an overwhelming thumbs-up.

emanilapoetry would now be counting more than 8,000 entries in its library of Filipino, English, Bicol, Pampango and Ilocano poems.

emanilapoetry launched on 19 June 2005 on the occasion of the 144th birth anniversary of the Philippines national hero, Dr Jose P. Rizal.

emanilapoetry has recently installed a new plug-in to allow users access to the poetry site using their PDAs or other WAP-enabled cellphones.

The new installation is available by entering www.emanilapoetry.com/writersgroup onto a WAP device. The content of the poetry site using the popular WordPress has been optimised to make it suitable for browsing on a handheld.

More applications are being planned for implementation on the poetry site to increase user interactivity and to enrich user online experience. #
